It coordinates, stores, and distributes the settings required to provide a centralized functionality to regulate and manage the Wi-Fi network.

  • You can connect the Aruba HPE6-A73 AP directly to a port on the controller or connect the AP to another switch or router with layer-2 or layer-3 connectivity to the controller.   • Only the configuration and hierarchy can be backed up using the backup config command, and the backup can be restored using the restore config on the Mobility Master.

Q2. A ‘^’ constantly appears at the CLI prompt when configuring my Mobility Master. What does it mean, and how do I get rid of it?

  • The ‘^’ at the CLI prompt means configuration still needs to be done. This unctted or pending configuration could be under any configured node path. To identify Aruba HPE6-A73 the node with the uncertain or uncommitted command issue, show the structure of unsaved nodes. Go to that node and issue the write memory command to remove ^.

Q3. My managed device (Mobility Controller) has an asterisk (*) constantly showing up at the CLI prompt. What does it mean, and how do I get rid of it?

Q14. Can we use Aruba HPE6-A73 Mobility Master as AP Master?

  • Mobility Master cannot be used as an AP master since APs cannot terminate on Mobility Master. If the AP manager on Mobility Master receives an AP HELLO message, the message is dropped.

Q16. How can an AP Discover the Controller?

An AP can discover the controller’s IP address from a DNS server, DHCP server, or Aruba Discovery Protocol. At boot time, the AP builds a list of managed device IP addresses and then tries them in order until it successfully reaches a managed device. The AP constructs its list of collected device addresses as follows:

  1. If the provisioning parameter is set to a DNS name, that name is resolved, and all resulting addresses are put on the list. If it is set to an IP address, that address is placed on the list. 
  2. If the provisioning parameter is not set and a managed device address is received in DHCP Option 43, that address is put on the list.
  3. If the provisioning parameter is not set and no address was received via Aruba HPE6-A73 DHCP option 43, ADP is used to discover a managed device address, which is put on the list.
  4. Managed device addresses derived from the server name and server-ip provisioning parameters and the default managed device name aruba-master are added to the list. Note that if a DNS name resolves to multiple addresses, all addresses are added to the list.

Q17. Do All AP tunes have the same image?

No Image on AP depends on the controller you use in the environment, like-

  1. Controller-based APs run an ArubaOS image
  2. Controller-less APs run an Instant image.

Q18. Give an Example of AP that can be used in any controller

  • AP-203H, AP-203R, AP-203RP, AP-303H,AP-365,AP-367 access points

Q19. How does AP decide to upgrade its factory image to controller-based or controllers?

  • When the Aruba HPE6-A73 AP is booted up with the manufacturing image, it enters the managed device and the Instant discovery process to determine if it will be upgraded to the controller-based mode (ArubaOS image) or controller-less mode (Instant image). After the managed device, Instant virtual controller, or Activate/AirWave/Central is discovered, the AP image is upgraded accordingly.

Q20. How will you connect a new AP deployed on the site with the Field engineer?

Whenever there is an AP replacement or New AP installation, we need to follow the below process:
  1. Connect the AP to the switch’s correct switch port to pick up an IP via DHCP.
  2. Now, you can see this AP in the Ildp table on the switch using the show Ildp neighbor command.
  3. Now find the Aruba HPE6-A73 IP assigned to AP using the show Ildp neighbor detail.
  4. Ask FE to connect his laptop to a spare port on the switch and configure the same as a wireless port.
  5. Ask FE to configure his laptop to use DHCP for IP addressing (if on static).
  6. FE’s laptop should get the IP address from the same DHCP range assigned for wireless.
  7. FE should be able to directly log into the AP’s GUI using AP IP from the Web Browser- Open AP IP in the browser with username and password as admin.

Q21. How do I convert an Instant IP to a Campus IP?

Log in to the controller and follow the below steps:

Click on Maintainance in the Instant main window on the top right corner.

Click on the Convert tab.

Select Campus APs managed by a Mobility Controller from the Convert one or more Access Points to the dropdown list.

Click on the Convert Now button.

Click on Convert Now in the Confirm Access Point Conversion window. The Instant IP reboots and begins operating in the Campus AP mode. After conversion, the Instant IP is managed by the Mobility Controller.

Q22. How do I troubleshoot if the client cannot connect to the SSID?

We assume no one can connect to a specific SSID, like a Corporate SSID.
  1. Check if SSID is broadcast.
  2. Check if the client gets errors while attempting authentication on the Authentication server or if any error message says so.
  3. Check if the client is getting any IP, like APIPA or 0.0.0.0
  4. If the client passes with authentication, check on ISE or ClearPass any old session that is stuck for the affected SSID
  5. Check for any posture issues if there is ISE in the environment.

Q23. The client is facing drops while roaming from one place or building. 

How would you fix it?
  1. Check the AP power status.
  2.  Determine the distance between the AP user’s movements.
  3.  Check the density of the area where the user faces problems and the number of APs.
  4.  Check if Fast Roaming is unable or not.
